Just 14 months after his passing, the townspeople of Cremona urged Pope Innocent III to canonize him, which he did. The papal bull announcing his canonization described St. Homobonus as the “father of the poor” and a “man good in name and deed.” He was recognized as “consoler of the afflicted” and a “man of peace and peacemaker.” Pope Innocent III famously stated, “This saint is still like a tree planted by streams of water, that yields its fruit in our time.”

St. Homobonus became the patron saint of various professions, including businesspeople, tailors, clothworkers, and shoemakers. His influence extends beyond professional realms, as he is also regarded as the patron saint of his hometown, Cremona. His remains are preserved in a crypt located in the Cremona Cathedral, a testament to his lasting legacy.
