Darryn Peterson’s Late 3-Pointers Secure KU’s Victory Over Texas Tech
UPDATE: In a thrilling finish, freshman sensation Darryn Peterson delivered two clutch 3-pointers to propel the No. 11 Kansas Jayhawks past No. 13 Texas Tech with a score of 64-61 on February 5, 2024. This marks Kansas’s sixth consecutive victory, showcasing the importance of Peterson’s performance down the stretch.
The game held at the United Supermarkets Arena in Lubbock, Texas, saw Peterson score 19 points while logging a season-high 35 minutes on the court. “This is the first game I got through to the end,” Peterson said, expressing his relief to finish strong after struggling with injuries throughout the season.
With just 1:20 remaining, Peterson nailed a contested 3-pointer from the right corner to tie the game. He followed up with another crucial shot from the left wing just 44 seconds later, sealing the victory for the Jayhawks. Prior to these pivotal moments, Peterson had faced challenges, shooting only 3-of-12 against the Red Raiders.
Coach Bill Self praised Peterson’s remarkable ability to elevate his game when it matters most. “He’s got something that I guess you’re born with and can’t teach,” Self noted. “Those two plays he made were obviously the two biggest plays of the game for us.”
Peterson’s road to this standout performance has not been easy. He missed the previous game due to an ankle injury and has faced ongoing issues with his hamstring and calf, leading to missed time in 10 games this season. Despite these setbacks, he is averaging an impressive 21.1 points per game.
The intensity of the game increased as Texas Tech struggled to maintain their lead, culminating in Peterson’s crucial shots following a turnover. The victory not only boosts Kansas’s record to 17-5 and 7-2 in the Big 12 but also reinforces Peterson’s emerging status as a potential top pick in the upcoming NBA draft.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Peterson, who continues to demonstrate his resilience and skill. Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how his performance will impact the Jayhawks’ quest for success in the Big 12 and beyond.
Stay tuned for more updates as Kansas looks to maintain momentum in their next matchup!
