Man Arrested for Fatal Hit-and-Run of 14-Year-Old Bicyclist

Urgent Update: A 23-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy in Thornton, Colorado. Authorities identified the suspect as Jeremy Nobles, who was taken into custody shortly after the collision, which occurred just before 9:45 p.m. on July 29, 2023.

The devastating incident unfolded near Huron Street and West Thornton Parkway, where the victim was riding a small motorized bike when he was struck from behind by a 2013 BMW 328i. Following the crash, Nobles allegedly fled the scene without stopping, prompting a swift response from local law enforcement.

Emergency responders rushed the teenager to the hospital, but he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The Adams County Coroner’s Office is expected to release the victim’s identity soon.

Thornton police utilized a Flock Safety license plate reader to track down the suspect vehicle. This technology provided crucial evidence, leading to the issuance of a Medina Alert by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for the vehicle. Shortly after the alert, investigators contacted Nobles, who claimed his car was located in Northglenn. Officers apprehended him shortly thereafter.

Thornton Police Chief Jim Baird expressed condolences, stating, “Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic crash.” As Nobles faces potential charges, including careless driving causing serious bodily injury or death and failure to remain at the scene, the community remains in shock over this heartbreaking loss.
