7 Brew Plans Expansion in Visalia, Competing with Dutch Bros
A new contender in the coffee market, 7 Brew, has filed plans to establish a location in Visalia, California, aiming to compete directly with the established presence of Dutch Bros. This expansion is part of 7 Brew’s rapid growth trajectory, having transitioned from 14 locations in 2019 to over 600 across the United States since its founding in 2017 in Arkansas.
The proposed site for the new coffee shop is the former Cask & Cleaver building on South Mooney Boulevard, which has remained vacant since it closed in 2009, aside from a brief period as a Mexican restaurant. The new establishment aims to replicate the youthful and energetic atmosphere that characterizes 7 Brew, which is known for its emphasis on speed and high-energy service. The location will feature a double drive-thru to facilitate quick customer service.
The name 7 Brew originates from the brand’s initial offering of seven coffee choices. This selection has since expanded to encompass over 20,000 potential combinations of coffee, energy drinks, and smoothies. The chain employs innovative service techniques, including roving baristas who take orders on laptops while lively music plays in the background.
The economic backing for 7 Brew has been significant. In 2024, Blackstone, one of the largest alternative asset management firms globally, invested in the company when it operated roughly 190 locations. Since that investment, 7 Brew has more than doubled its footprint, concluding 2024 with over $502 million in system-wide sales. Franchised units that have matured typically generate around $2 million in annual revenue.
The physical design of 7 Brew also plays a role in its business model, with stores averaging about 510 square feet and often built using modular construction techniques. This efficiency is appealing to investors, as evidenced by Franchise Equity Partners, which recently acquired the second-largest 7 Brew franchisee and plans to develop more than 200 additional locations.
For communities like Visalia, the financial strength behind 7 Brew is noteworthy. When a concept backed by a major player like Blackstone seeks to establish itself, it typically signals a commitment to growth that extends beyond a single location. As 7 Brew moves forward with its plans, local residents can expect a new, dynamic coffee option to join the existing offerings in their area, contributing to the competitive landscape of quick-service coffee in the region.
