Hulu Launches New Legal Thriller with Elisabeth Moss in Lead Role
Hulu is set to enhance its programming lineup with a new legal drama titled Conviction, featuring acclaimed actress Elisabeth Moss in the lead role. This series marks the first major project to arise from a development agreement between author Jack Jordan and 20th Television, emphasizing Hulu’s commitment to character-driven narratives featuring established talent.
The series, which is described as a gripping legal thriller, showcases Moss as Neve Harper, a skilled criminal defense attorney tasked with defending a husband accused of murdering his wife by setting their home ablaze. The project brings together notable names in television, with David Shore, known for creating The Good Doctor and House, serving as the series’ writer and executive producer. Shore’s return to the legal genre has been anticipated, particularly because of his background as a practicing attorney.
Production details indicate that Conviction has been in development for some time, but momentum increased when Shore submitted the pilot script. Hulu executives requested further material, including an outline for the second episode, but Shore surprised them by delivering a complete draft instead. This initiative underscored his commitment to the project and showcased his creative drive.
Production Timeline and Collaborators
The writer’s room for Conviction is expected to open within the next ten days, with filming slated to commence in June in New York. Moss will not only star in the series but will also serve as an executive producer alongside Shore, Warren Littlefield, and Bert Salke. This collaboration marks the third partnership between Moss and Littlefield for Hulu, following the success of the Emmy-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale and its upcoming sequel, The Testaments.
The new series arrives as Hulu continues to expand its portfolio of high-quality programming aimed at engaging audiences with thoughtful and compelling storytelling. The legal drama is part of a broader strategy to deliver content that resonates with viewers and highlights complex characters and situations.
Continuing Success of Elisabeth Moss
Moss remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, continuing her involvement with the Handmaid’s Tale franchise as the storyline advances into The Testaments, set to premiere on April 8, 2026. This sequel, occurring 15 years after the original series, shifts focus to young women navigating the oppressive environment of Gilead, including Chase Infiniti, who plays Agnes, the abducted daughter of Moss’s character, June.
In a recent interview, Infiniti expressed her admiration for Moss, noting that the veteran actress made an immediate effort to ensure she felt welcome and supported during their collaboration. The cast of The Testaments also includes Lucy Halliday and Rowan Blanchard, with Ann Dowd reprising her role as Aunt Lydia.
As anticipation builds for both Conviction and The Testaments, Hulu continues to position itself as a leader in original content, striving to deliver engaging narratives that reflect the complexities of human experience. The release date for Conviction has not yet been announced, but viewers can expect further updates as production progresses.
