Jalen Green Out for Suns’ Opener Due to Hamstring Injury
UPDATE: The Phoenix Suns will kick off their season without key offseason addition Jalen Green, who has been ruled out for opening night due to a hamstring injury. This urgent development was confirmed by first-year head coach Jordan Ott just hours before the Suns face the Sacramento Kings on October 22, 2023.
Green, acquired from the Houston Rockets in the blockbuster trade for Kevin Durant, aggravated his hamstring injury while in China earlier this month. During a press conference before the Suns’ preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night, Ott revealed that Green will be reevaluated in 10 days, indicating that his absence will extend beyond the opener.
The injury, initially labeled a “low-grade hamstring strain,” occurred during training camp but did not prevent Green from traveling with the team for their preseason matchups against the Brooklyn Nets. His high-scoring ability was expected to significantly bolster the Suns’ lineup, heightening the stakes for fans eager to see the new-look team in action.
As the Suns prepare for their season debut, this injury creates immediate challenges for the squad. Green’s absence will not only affect their offensive strategy but may also place additional pressure on other players to step up and fill the scoring void. Fans and analysts alike will be closely monitoring how Phoenix adapts to this setback and who will emerge as key contributors in Green’s absence.
The Suns will look to rally in their first game of the regular season despite this blow. With Green sidelined, the team’s depth will be tested as they aim for a strong start against the Kings. Stay tuned for updates on Green’s recovery and the Suns’ performance as the season unfolds.
