Ryan Gosling Revives Iconic ‘Barbie’ Song on SNL with Harry Styles
UPDATE: In an unexpected twist during his hosting gig on Saturday Night Live (SNL), Ryan Gosling brought back his viral hit “I’m Just Ken” from the blockbuster Barbie movie, all thanks to a surprise appearance by Harry Styles. The moment unfolded live on March 7, 2024, as Styles, who is set to host and perform next week, crashed Gosling’s monologue, electrifying the audience in Studio 8H.
This exciting development comes as Gosling, 45, is promoting his new sci-fi film Project Hail Mary. Styles, 32, arrived early, joking about wanting to get a feel for the show, which sent Gosling into a comedic spiral. “Could you listen less cool? It’s like your coolness is becoming an issue,” Gosling quipped, referencing Styles’ effortless charm as the cameras frequently cut to him in the audience.
The banter escalated as Gosling humorously misnamed his movie “Project Harry Styles,” leading to a series of laughs from the audience, including SNL cast member Sarah Sherman, who joked about wanting to be “in God’s country,” a nod to country star Morgan Wallen’s infamous walk-off on SNL.
As the unexpected distraction continued, Gosling attempted to regain his composure by singing Styles’ hit “Sign of the Times,” but he quickly abandoned ship, admitting, “nobody wants this.” Instead, he sang the chorus of his Oscar-nominated anthem, “I’m Just Ken,” reminiscing about the thrill of performing it at the 2024 Academy Awards.
With SNL cast member Mikey Day providing comic relief with a kiss on the cheek, the entire cast rallied around Gosling, belting out the chorus of “Sign of the Times” to a delighted Styles, who was all smiles from the front row.
As anticipation builds for next week’s episode, fans can look forward to Styles taking the stage as both host and musical guest on March 14, 2024. This episode promises to deliver even more unforgettable moments as the SNL legacy continues to unfold.
