Sydney Sweeney’s ‘The Custom of the Country’ Expands Cast and Production Progress

The cast of the upcoming film adaptation of The Custom of the Country continues to grow, with several notable actors joining the project led by Sydney Sweeney. Among the latest additions is Rose Leslie, known for her role in Game of Thrones, alongside a diverse ensemble of performers. Production for the film is actively underway, further building anticipation for its release.

New Cast Members Join the Production

According to Deadline, the expanding cast now includes Matthew Goode, Louis Garrel, Martha Plimpton, Irene Jacob, Hugh Dancy, Ian Hart, James McArdle, Rosie Sheehy, Louisa Harland, Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́, Dominic West, and Miranda Richardson. They will work alongside Leo Woodall in a film being developed by Studiocanal and Rabbit’s Foot Films.

Directed by Josie Rourke, who also penned the screenplay, this adaptation is based on the novel by esteemed author Edith Wharton. The narrative follows the character of Undine Spragg, portrayed by Sweeney—an ambitious young woman from the American Midwest who relocates to New York City in pursuit of wealth and an elevated social standing. As she integrates into elite circles, Undine grapples with the constraints of a stringent social order and her personal aspirations.

Production and Release Plans

Production for The Custom of the Country is currently in progress. Sweeney is also involved as a producer, collaborating with LD Entertainment, Charles Finch, and Alison Owen of Monumental Pictures. Studiocanal is financing the film and plans for a theatrical release in multiple territories, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, and the Benelux region.

While an official release date has yet to be confirmed, the film is anticipated to premiere sometime in 2024. As production advances, audiences are eager to see how this classic novel is brought to life on screen.
