Two Pedestrians Hospitalized After Serious Car Crash in SF
URGENT UPDATE: A serious car crash in the Mission District of San Francisco has left six people hospitalized, including two pedestrians with life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred Friday afternoon at the intersection of 22nd Street and South Van Ness Avenue, and authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
According to police and fire officials on the scene, the two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle that also collided with another approaching car. Fire Department Assistant Chief Bill Storti confirmed that all six victims were transported to the hospital, with two suffering serious injuries that require immediate medical attention.
Witness accounts paint a harrowing picture of the aftermath. Amerie Wheeler, a nearby resident, described hearing screeching brakes followed by a “big crash.” She rushed outside to find two individuals lying on the street, one conscious and asking about the other, who was unresponsive.
Emergency response teams cordoned off the area with police tape, and disturbing images from the scene revealed shoes and clothing scattered across the pavement. One slipper was even found on the roof of the vehicle involved in the crash. As emergency crews worked, one individual from the car was seen being fitted with a neck brace.
The two pedestrians were quickly rushed to San Francisco General Hospital, where their conditions remain critical but stable. Storti expressed cautious optimism, stating he believed both would survive the incident.
This tragic event underscores the ongoing concerns regarding pedestrian safety in urban areas. As investigations continue, residents are left shaken and seeking answers. The community is urged to remain vigilant in the wake of this alarming incident.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the situation develops. Stay tuned for more information on this breaking story, as it impacts not only those directly involved but also the wider San Francisco community.
