Kings’ Keegan Murray Signs $140M Extension, Secures Future
BREAKING: Sacramento Kings forward Keegan Murray has just secured a monumental $140 million extension with the franchise that will keep him in Sacramento for the next five years. This deal was confirmed by his representatives, Mark Bartelstein and Kyle McAlarney of Priority Sports, just ahead of the 11:59 p.m. ET deadline on Monday.
Murray, who was the No. 4 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has quickly established himself as an essential player for the Kings, helping the team end its playoff drought last season. As a full-time starter, he made the All-Rookie Team and has become recognized for his two-way play, averaging 12.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists across 76 games.
Despite a slight plateau in his offensive production, Murray’s defensive skills have blossomed. He ranks among the elite, becoming one of only three players in the league to achieve at least 500 three-pointers, 150 blocks, and 150 steals over the past three seasons, alongside Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards and Boston’s Derrick White. Last season, he was the Kings’ primary perimeter defender, facing off against 2025 All-Stars in 1,005 halfcourt matchups, which is the fifth-most in the NBA.
However, there is a pressing concern for Murray and the Kings. The 25-year-old is expected to miss several weeks at the start of the season due to a torn UCL in his left thumb. Despite this setback, Murray has shown remarkable durability in his first three seasons, playing 233 out of 246 total games. His resilience and commitment to the game have earned him a spot in history as one of only seven players to hit at least 150 three-pointers in each of his first three NBA seasons.
This contract extension not only provides financial security for Murray but also signals the Kings’ commitment to building a competitive roster. With this development, the franchise aims to solidify its position in the NBA and enhance its playoff prospects for the upcoming seasons.
As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on Murray’s recovery and the impact of this significant contract on the Kings’ future. Fans and analysts alike are eagerly anticipating how this will unfold, especially given the stakes involved for both the player and the franchise.
Stay tuned for more updates on Murray’s recovery and the Kings’ journey in the upcoming NBA season.
