The ski season is nearly upon us, as snowmaking operations have commenced at several Colorado mountains. With winter approaching, ski enthusiasts can look forward to the premiere of highly anticipated ski films at local theaters and brewpubs across the region.

Upcoming Ski Film Screenings

Among the highlights is Teton Gravity Research’s latest release, “Pressure Drop,” which celebrates the company’s 30-year legacy in ski filmmaking. This film will be screened on October 25, 2023, at Wibby Brewing in Longmont. Another notable entry, “Sno-Ciety,” the 76th film from Warren Miller Entertainment, features a segment filmed at Ruby Hill Rail Yard in Denver. It will have five showings at the Boulder Theater from November 13 to 15, followed by three showings at the Paramount Theater in Denver on November 21 and 22.

Additionally, “After the Snowfall” by Matchstick Productions is set to be shown on November 6, 2023, at Wood Boss Brewing in Denver. These films not only showcase breathtaking landscapes but also emphasize themes of inclusivity and community within the skiing culture.

Film Highlights and Locations

The Warren Miller film, which debuted recently in Salt Lake City, features segments filmed in diverse locations, including Mammoth, California, British Columbia, Scotland, Finland, Steamboat Springs, and last year’s World Alpine Ski Championships in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria. The segment captured at Ruby Hill lasts over nine minutes and centers on fun and inclusivity.

“After the Snowfall” includes stunning footage from skiing destinations such as Arapahoe Basin, Steamboat, British Columbia, Alaska, Norway, and Japan, promising a global perspective on skiing. Meanwhile, the TGR film transports viewers to popular sites like Norway, Alaska, British Columbia, Palisades Tahoe in California, and TGR’s home base in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

As winter approaches, Colorado ski areas are actively engaged in snowmaking, with operations reported at Arapahoe Basin, Loveland, Keystone, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Winter Park, Vail, and Beaver Creek.

For those eager to immerse themselves in the thrill of skiing and the beauty of winter sports, these films provide an exciting opportunity to experience the culture and camaraderie of the skiing community.
