Blue Jays Reach World Series, Guerrero Jr. Honored as MVP
The Toronto Blue Jays have made history by reaching the World Series for the first time since 1993, thanks in large part to the outstanding performance of Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. The 26-year-old slugger was named the American League Championship Series (ALCS) Most Valuable Player after leading his team through a thrilling postseason run. The Blue Jays entered the 2025 MLB season as underdogs but overcame significant challenges to capture the AL pennant.
The Blue Jays faced the New York Yankees in the AL Division Series, emerging victorious before taking on the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS. The Mariners, seeking their first World Series appearance, initially took control of the series, winning the first two games. However, Toronto rallied back, winning two of three games at home to force a decisive Game 7. With Seattle leading 3-1, George Springer delivered a pivotal seventh-inning three-run home run, securing the Blue Jays’ victory on October 16, 2025.
Guerrero Jr. shone throughout the series, boasting an impressive .385/.484/.846 slash line. He hit three home runs and recorded six extra-base hits while striking out only twice in the series. His performance solidified his reputation as one of the league’s premier hitters. Following the Blue Jays’ historic win, his father, Vladimir Guerrero Sr., shared an emotional tribute on Instagram. He expressed pride in his son’s achievements, stating, “I’ve seen every sacrifice, every workout, every tear. Watching him become the ALCS MVP is the reward for all of it. You’re great, son!”
Vladimir Guerrero Sr., who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019, had his own World Series aspirations during his career. He made his World Series debut in 2010 with the Texas Rangers but faced disappointment as they lost to the San Francisco Giants in five games. Now, his son stands on the brink of achieving what eluded him.
In the 2025 postseason, Guerrero Jr. has continued to excel, averaging .442 with six home runs and 12 RBIs in just 11 games. His extraordinary batting has garnered attention from analysts, including FOX Sports analyst Alex Rodriguez, who labeled him “the best hitter in the game.” Rodriguez contrasted Guerrero Jr.’s prowess with that of Shohei Ohtani, calling Ohtani “the best athlete in the world.”
To further cement his future with the Blue Jays, Guerrero Jr. signed a 14-year, $500 million contract extension, the second-largest by present value in MLB history. This contract ensures that the young star will remain in Toronto through 2039.
As the Blue Jays prepare for the World Series, Guerrero Jr. remains focused on achieving ultimate success. He stated, “The job is not finished. We got four more to go.” The Blue Jays are set to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 1 of the World Series at Rogers Centre on October 20, 2025. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Toronto can secure its first championship in over three decades.
