“Clue” Takes Center Stage at Syracuse’s Landmark Theatre
The Landmark Theatre in Syracuse is set to host the national tour of “Clue,” running from October 28 to November 1. This production transforms the venue into the iconic Boddy Mansion, inviting audiences to engage in a thrilling murder mystery inspired by the beloved Hasbro game and the classic 1985 film. Tickets are available starting at $43, providing an accessible opportunity for theatergoers to immerse themselves in this comedic whodunit.
“Clue” presents a unique interactive experience, allowing the audience to join six enigmatic dinner guests as they attempt to solve the murder of the blackmailing host, Mr. Boddy. The play stands out for its incorporation of multiple endings, ensuring that each performance can deliver a different experience. This dynamic format keeps viewers on their toes, reminiscent of the game itself where players deduce the murderer, the crime location, and the weapon involved.
TJ Lamando, who portrays Mr. Green, emphasizes the fresh surprises the show offers. “There are a lot of surprises that are not in the movie, and a lot of things that tie specifically to the board game that maybe the movie doesn’t do,” he stated. Lamando’s passion for the production stems from his childhood love for the 1985 film, which he watched with his father, a fan of the talented cast, including Tim Curry and Lesley Ann Warren.
In shaping his interpretation of Mr. Green, Lamando focuses on the character’s timid and anxious nature. “In the breakdown, it calls Mr. Green a timid, anxious person, a rule follower — those are kind of things I like to carry with me as I’m playing Mr. Green,” he explained. This approach adds depth to the character, enhancing the tension that arises when nerves intertwine with the suspenseful backdrop of a murder mystery.
The ensemble cast brings a variety of personalities to life, creating engaging dynamics that are both entertaining and relatable. Lamando noted, “The other characters have a lot of fun making Mr. Green even more nervous than he already is.” This interplay enriches the overall experience, allowing for moments that resonate with the audience.
“Clue” is not only a theatrical spectacle but also a family-friendly event that appeals to all ages. Lamando remarked on the unifying power of such productions, stating, “It’s rare to get a show like this that really is great for all ages. I love seeing how unifying that is across generations and families.” The play taps into the universal intrigue of a whodunit, making it a compelling draw for diverse audiences.
In conjunction with the opening of the M&T Bank Broadway season, Broadway in Syracuse is hosting a scavenger hunt in downtown Syracuse. Participants can scan QR codes at local businesses to gather clues, with the chance to win two tickets to the opening night of “Clue,” along with a basket of candy and a Clue board game. The scavenger hunt concludes on October 26, providing an exciting lead-up to the show.
As “Clue” prepares to take the stage in Syracuse, it promises a delightful blend of suspense, humor, and audience interaction, ensuring that both fans of the game and newcomers alike will enjoy this unique theatrical experience.
