Community Mourns Loss of Michael K. Gratton, 57, in Grand Forks

Michael K. Gratton, aged 57, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, in Grand Forks, North Dakota, surrounded by family. His passing has left a profound impact on the community, where he was known for his dedication to family and his career in agriculture.

Visitation services will be held on October 30, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grand Forks. A prayer service will commence at 6:00 p.m. Visitation will continue the following morning, October 31, 2025, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. After the service, burial will take place at Mountain Cemetery in Mountain, North Dakota.

Michael was born on October 5, 1968, in Cavalier, North Dakota, to Ronald and Sharon Gratton. Raised in the Milton-Osnabrock area, he graduated from Milton-Osnabrock High School in 1987. He began his career with Close Construction before joining CHS, where he progressed from a consultant to the manager of various grain elevators. Later in his career, he also worked as a private contractor manager for several local grain elevators.

In 1994, Michael married Jeanette Halldorson in Edinburgh, North Dakota. The couple raised their family across various communities, ultimately settling in Grand Forks in 2010. Michael cherished outdoor activities with his family, enjoying trips to their hunting cabin near Milton and participating in the family tradition of the “Boons Farm Ride.” He also loved spending time on the lake and frequently visited Arizona to attend Barrett-Jackson auctions.

Family was at the heart of Michael’s life. His grandson, Archer Balsdon, held a special place in his heart, bringing joy and a unique bond to their relationship. Michael is survived by his wife, Jeanette Gratton, son Aaron (Lahni) Gratton of Milton, daughter Brittney (Ramsey) Balsdon of Langdon, and grandson Archer. He is also survived by his father, Ronald Gratton, and brothers Chris (Kari) Gratton of Fargo, Tony (Ashley) Gratton of Leeds, and Steve (Amy) Gratton of Devils Lake, along with numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Gratton, and grandparents.

Arrangements are being handled by Amundson Funeral Home, which is providing support to the family during this difficult time. Michael K. Gratton will be remembered for his warm spirit, love for family, and contributions to the community.
