The New England Patriots have elevated running back D’Ernest Johnson from their practice squad ahead of the game against the Atlanta Falcons on March 3, 2024. This decision was made on Saturday, just two days after Johnson joined the Patriots’ practice squad.

At 29 years old, Johnson brings experience to the team, having previously played for the Cleveland Browns. Over his seven years in the NFL, he has amassed 989 career rushing yards on 215 carries, scoring three touchdowns. Additionally, Johnson has contributed to the passing game with 53 receptions for 465 yards.

The Patriots opted for Johnson over fellow practice squad running backs Jonathan Ward and Rushawn Baker. Johnson was recently released from the Arizona Cardinals practice squad, where he appeared in one game but did not record any rushing yards.

With the absence of Rhamondre Stevenson, who has been ruled out due to a toe injury, Johnson’s elevation is a crucial move for the Patriots. Alongside him, running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Terrell Jennings will also be available for the matchup against the Falcons.

As the Patriots prepare to face the Falcons, Johnson’s experience may provide the team with a much-needed boost in their offensive strategy.
