Grand Forks Herald Launches Unique Piano Contest for Local Societies
On November 6, 1902, the Grand Forks Daily Herald announced an innovative contest aimed at local societies in North Dakota and Minnesota. The newspaper plans to award two free upright pianos to the most popular organizations, with winners determined by public votes and newspaper coupons instead of monetary contributions. This initiative encourages community engagement and showcases the talents of various local groups.
The contest is open to all public societies and organizations, including religious, social, fraternal, and military groups. While any eligible organization can compete for the pianos, only one of the awards will be granted to a society based in Grand Forks. The contest rules specify that if two outside societies receive more votes than any Grand Forks organization, they will take home both pianos.
Voting in the contest is free and accessible to everyone. Participants can vote as often as they wish, utilizing coupons that will appear in each issue of The Herald. Individuals must cut out the coupons and submit them to the newspaper’s office, where a ballot box will be available. The votes will be counted regularly, ensuring transparency and excitement throughout the contest.
Three local judges will oversee the vote tally at the contest’s conclusion, adding an element of credibility to the process. The Grand Forks Daily Herald aims to create a spirited atmosphere, encouraging community members to support their favorite local societies and increase their chances of winning.
The promotion not only seeks to reward the most popular organizations but also provides an opportunity for societies to enhance their facilities with a new piano. As the contest unfolds, communities are expected to rally behind their local groups, showcasing the vibrant spirit of the region.
This innovative approach to community engagement reflects the newspaper’s commitment to supporting local culture and fostering connections among residents. As the contest progresses, anticipation builds for the announcement of the winners, set to be revealed once the voting period concludes.
