Hoag Hospitals Achieve Top “A” Ratings for Patient Safety
Hoag has earned straight “A” grades from The Leapfrog Group for its hospitals located in Newport Beach and Irvine, achieving a significant milestone for patient safety and quality of care. This recognition, announced on November 13, 2025, underscores Hoag’s dedication to providing exceptional healthcare standards in the Orange County community.
Robert T. Braithwaite, president and CEO of Hoag, emphasized the organization’s commitment to patient safety. “Patient safety has always been at the heart of everything we do at Hoag,” he stated. The “A” grades reflect the contributions of Hoag’s physicians, nurses, and staff, who strive daily to ensure the highest quality care for their patients.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade evaluates nearly 3,000 general hospitals nationwide, utilizing 22 evidence-based measures that include infection prevention, surgical safety, and reduced length of hospital stays. By consistently prioritizing these factors, Hoag has positioned itself among a select group of hospitals recognized for their excellence in patient safety performance.
Hoag’s achievements are not only a testament to its internal practices but also serve as valuable resources for patients. The grades provide transparent, data-driven insights into hospital quality, assisting patients in making informed healthcare decisions.
With a comprehensive healthcare system in place, Hoag operates two award-winning hospitals alongside 18 urgent care facilities and 13 health and wellness centers. The organization consists of around 1,800 physicians and offers specialized services through seven institutes, including cancer, heart and vascular, and orthopedic care.
Hoag stands out in the healthcare landscape as the highest-ranked hospital in Orange County, according to U.S. News & World Report. It is also the only hospital in the region to be ranked in the Top 10 in California and has received the prestigious Magnet® with Distinction designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
