The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has appointed Zenobia Moochhala as the new Undersecretary of Business Strategies, according to the Executive Office of Economic Development. Eric Paley, the Economic Development Secretary, praised Moochhala’s qualifications, stating, “Zenobia is a dynamic and strategic leader who knows how to build, scale, and deliver.” With a solid track record, particularly as the co-founder of Care.com, Moochhala is poised to play a crucial role in driving the state’s economic growth. Her appointment underscores a commitment to enhancing Massachusetts’s innovative capacity and ensuring long-term expansion.

Key Responsibilities and Collaborations

In her new role, Moochhala will oversee the Massachusetts Office of Business Development, working in tandem with various organizations, including the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, Massachusetts Life Sciences Center, MassVentures, and the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. Her duties will also encompass managing the state’s engagements in tourism and international trade, essential components for Massachusetts’s economic vitality and outreach.

Moochhala’s foray into state government follows a distinguished career where she not only co-founded the largest online caregiver marketplace but also guided Sittercity after its acquisition and contributed to the marketing success of Bright Horizons. Her contributions have garnered recognition from prestigious bodies such as the Boston Business Journal and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.

A Vision for Innovation and Growth

Moochhala expressed enthusiasm about her new position, stating, “Massachusetts is home to some of the world’s most innovative companies and brightest talent. I’m excited to bring my experience to state government and to work closely with the business community, our quasi partners, and the dedicated team at EOED.”

Her educational background, which includes a B.A. from St. Xavier’s College and an M.A. from Brandeis University, complements her extensive portfolio of leadership roles. These roles range from Chief Operating Officer at Embark Veterinary to significant positions at Upromise. Moochhala’s commitment to mentorship is evident in her active involvement with TiE Boston, where she supports emerging entrepreneurs and innovation.
