Allegheny Health Network Hospitals Earn 2026 Specialty Excellence Awards

Three hospitals within the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) have been recognized with the prestigious 2026 Specialty Care Excellence Awards by Healthgrades. This acknowledgment highlights their exceptional performance in providing specialized medical care across various fields, reinforcing AHN’s commitment to quality healthcare in Western Pennsylvania.

Among the top achievers, AHN Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) has distinguished itself as the leading facility for cardiac surgery in the state. AGH is celebrated not only as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery from 2022-2026, but also as one of the 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care and Coronary Intervention for the period 2025-2026. In state rankings, AGH secured the top position for cardiac surgery and fifth for coronary intervention.

The accolades extend beyond mere rankings. AHN AGH has been awarded a five-star rating for its performance in several areas, including coronary bypass surgery for eight consecutive years, valve surgery for six years, and coronary interventional procedures as well as heart attack treatment for three years running. Dr. Stephen Bailey, Chair of the AHN Cardiovascular Institute, emphasized the significance of these honors, stating, “Year after year, these recognitions from Healthgrades reinforce our legacy of excellence in cardiac care, assuring our patients that they are receiving treatment grounded in the most advanced techniques and evidence-based practices, delivered by an experienced, highly skilled exceptionally caring team.”

Recognition for Additional Facilities

Other AHN facilities have also garnered recognition from Healthgrades. AHN Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie ranked among the nation’s top 50 hospitals for outpatient excellence in prostate care in 2026, reflecting superior clinical outcomes in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Meanwhile, AHN Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills received the Vascular Surgery Excellence Award for 2024-2026, ranking third in Pennsylvania due to its outstanding results in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, carotid surgery, and peripheral vascular bypass surgery.

The Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Awards honor hospitals that demonstrate exceptional clinical performance across 16 specialty care areas. The evaluation process involved approximately 4,500 hospitals, assessing outcomes related to 31 common procedures and conditions, using both Medicare data and other reputable sources. Recognizing hospitals solely based on patient outcomes—including risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications—these awards highlight facilities that deliver superior care.

Commitment to Quality Care

Additional AHN hospitals joined the list of recognized facilities, achieving five-star ratings for positive health outcomes in various specialties. For instance, AHN West Penn excelled in coronary interventional procedures, while AHN Forbes Hospital earned accolades for pneumonia treatment. AHN Wexford Hospital was recognized for both pneumonia and sepsis care, and AHN Allegheny Valley Hospital achieved honors for sepsis care, diabetic hospitalizations, and upper gastrointestinal surgeries.
