Time Out Market Boston, a prominent food hall situated in the Fenway neighborhood, will remain operational despite earlier announcements of its closure. Initially set to shut its doors on March 29, 2024, due to escalating costs and fluctuating foot traffic linked to changing work patterns, the market has since secured a future following significant community backing.

On Thursday, March 28, Samuels & Associates, a local real estate firm, confirmed it has reached an agreement to keep the venue at 401 Park Drive open. The company attributed this decision to a “strong groundswell of community support for the city’s first food hall.”

Community and Leadership Support

Steve Samuels, CEO of Samuels & Associates, emphasized the importance of Time Out Market, describing it as “an important neighborhood amenity and an essential part of what makes Fenway work.” He noted that the market serves various local demographics, including residents, students, and employees from the nearby Colleges of the Fenway and the Longwood Medical Area. Its presence also helps balance the bustling activities generated by nearby sports and entertainment venues.

Samuels expressed optimism about the market’s role in the community, stating that it provides a vital gathering space and economic hub. The impact of the venue extends beyond food offerings, showcasing local culinary talent to both residents and visitors alike.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu echoed these sentiments, highlighting the necessity of food halls in thriving cities. “Every great city needs great food halls, and Time Out Market in Fenway has been a needed gathering space and economic hub,” Wu stated in a recent announcement.

Operational Changes and Challenges

While Time Out Market Boston will continue to operate under its established name, the management will transition away from the Time Out brand. This change comes at a time when many restaurants in the Boston area have faced significant challenges. Notable regional chains such as Uno Pizzeria and Bertucci’s have recently closed multiple locations due to ongoing pressures.

The food hall features 15 vendors, including popular names like Ms. Clucks Deluxe, Cusser’s Roast Beef & Seafood, and Union Square Donuts. Despite a neighbor’s comment to WBZ-TV that the market is “pretty overpriced,” there is hope among new operators and local leaders that it will become a staple of the Fenway area for years to come.

As the food hall continues its operations, it aims to balance local dining needs and enhance the community experience. The future of Time Out Market Boston now looks promising, thanks to the active support from both local leadership and the community.
