“Classic Outdoors Show ‘Minnesota Bound’ Shifts to KSTP After 30 Years”
The beloved outdoors program, Minnesota Bound, is making a significant shift after three decades on KARE 11, moving its operations to KSTP. Starting on January 4, 2024, new episodes of the show will air weekly at 11 p.m. on Sundays, with a repeat broadcast at 9:30 p.m. the following Saturday on KSTC-TV.
Founded in 1995 by Ron Schara, a prominent outdoors columnist for the Star Tribune, Minnesota Bound has produced over 850 episodes featuring adventures and stories centered around the natural beauty of Minnesota. Schara retired from hosting in 2018, but he has continued to make guest appearances on the show. His daughter, Laura Schara, along with outdoorsman and journalist Bill Sherck, has since taken over hosting duties.
Transitioning to New Opportunities
The decision to switch networks is not just a logistical change but a strategic move aimed at expanding the show’s reach. Scott Fransen, CEO of Ron Schara Productions, expressed optimism about the transition. “This move is the right step to broaden Minnesota Bound’s footprint and to continue our storytelling legacy for the next 30 years,” Fransen stated.
The format of the show is expected to remain consistent, allowing viewers to continue enjoying the blend of outdoor adventures, wildlife exploration, and local culture they have come to love. The upcoming episodes promise to maintain the show’s signature storytelling style and engaging content, which has resonated with audiences for decades.
A Legacy of Outdoor Storytelling
Since its inception, Minnesota Bound has become a staple in Minnesota’s television landscape, captivating audiences with its heartfelt narratives and stunning visuals of the state’s natural environment. The show’s legacy is further enriched by Schara’s contributions, including a book titled Ron Schara’s Minnesota: Mostly True Tales of a Life Outdoors, published in 2021.
As the show embarks on this new chapter, fans can look forward to continuing their journey with Minnesota Bound on KSTP, celebrating the connection to the outdoors that has been the hallmark of the series for the past thirty years.
