The Elizabethton/Carter County Public Library is introducing free line dancing classes aimed at adults seeking a fun and engaging way to exercise. The classes, taught by local instructor Katie Myers, will take place every Monday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Maryann Owen, the library’s technology librarian, encourages community members to participate, stating, “If you’re looking for a fun way to exercise, try it out.” These classes are designed to break down the fundamentals of line dancing, making it accessible even for those who may not consider themselves skilled dancers. Owen mentioned, “I’m uncoordinated, I’m slow to learn, and she goes through the steps, and it’s so much fun, and you learn the dance.”

Attendance is open to anyone aged 18 and older, and residency in Carter County is not a requirement. This initiative is part of the library’s broader adult services program, which aims to highlight the diverse offerings available beyond traditional book lending. Owen noted the importance of reminding the public about the library’s various services, stating, “It’s sad that so many people don’t understand that our library isn’t just about books.”

The line dancing classes represent an effort to engage the community in healthy activities while fostering a sense of togetherness. Participants can expect a lively atmosphere that combines fitness with social interaction, making it an appealing option for those looking to enhance their physical activity in a supportive environment.
