Metropolitan Opera Launches Live in HD Screening of Kavalier & Clay
The Metropolitan Opera will feature the critically acclaimed opera “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” in its Live in HD series. This performance, recorded earlier in the season, will be available in approximately 800 theaters worldwide on January 24, 2024.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Michael Chabon, the opera is composed by Mason Bates with a libretto by Gene Scheer. Conducted by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the production showcases a talented cast. Baritone Andrzej Filończyk stars as Joe Kavalier, while tenor Miles Mykkanen takes on the role of Sam Clay. Additional cast members include soprano Lauren Snouffer as Sarah Kavalier, mezzo-soprano Sun-Ly Pierce as Rosa Saks, and baritone Edward Nelson as Tracy Bacon. Bass-baritones Patrick Carfizzi and Craig Colclough portray Sheldon Anapol and Gerhard, respectively.
Exclusive Insights and Reception
The Live in HD screening will also feature exclusive behind-the-scenes content during intermission, directed by Gary Halvorson. This addition aims to enhance the viewer experience, providing insights into the production process and the creative minds behind it.
The opera received a warm reception upon its initial performance earlier this season.
“Andrzej Filończyk and Miles Mykkanen were the pillars on which the entire enterprise rose,”
stated a review from OperaWire, highlighting the strong performances that form the backbone of the production.
With its unique blend of music, storytelling, and visual artistry, “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay” promises to be a significant cultural event. The Metropolitan Opera continues to engage audiences globally, bringing innovative productions to the forefront of the performing arts.
For those unable to attend the live performances at the Metropolitan Opera, the upcoming screening offers a valuable opportunity to experience this modern opera in the comfort of local cinemas.
