Opera Hispánica to Premiere Rodolfo Zanetti’s ‘Las Maldiciones’
Opera Hispánica will unveil the world premiere of “Las Maldiciones” on March 1, 2026. This new chamber opera features music and lyrics by Rodolfo Zanetti, a distinguished Argentine composer known for his Latin GRAMMY-winning work and mastery of the bandoneon. The performance will take place at the National Sawdust venue in Brooklyn, marking a significant event in the contemporary opera scene.
The premiere is part of Opera Hispánica’s Veintiún-OH, 21st Century Chamber Opera Series. This initiative aims to showcase innovative works that reflect modern themes and diverse cultural influences. The collaboration involves National Sawdust and the New York City Opera, enhancing the project’s reach and impact.
Zanetti will perform alongside Sasha Gutiérrez, a Colombian soprano, and the esteemed Arya String Quartet. The performance will be conducted by Jorge Parodi, who serves as Opera Hispánica’s General and Artistic Director. This blend of talent promises an evocative experience, bringing Zanetti’s vision to life with emotional depth.
“Las Maldiciones” delves into the intricate and often turbulent emotional landscape of unrequited love. The opera traces the journey of a scorned soul, exploring themes of inner turmoil and self-reflection. As the narrative unfolds, the protagonist confronts their own pain, ultimately leading to a fleeting yet profound moment of peace.
With this production, Opera Hispánica continues its mission to expand the repertoire of Latin American operatic works while fostering new artistic expressions. The premiere of “Las Maldiciones” not only highlights the rich cultural contributions of Latin artists but also aims to engage audiences with its contemporary relevance.
The anticipation surrounding this event reflects a growing interest in new operatic forms and the stories they tell. As preparations progress, the collaboration among talented musicians and the innovative vision of Zanetti set the stage for a memorable evening that promises to resonate with audiences.
