Rachel Ward Advocates Embracing Aging After Social Media Criticism
Rachel Ward, the acclaimed actress known for her role in The Thorn Birds, has responded to social media criticism regarding her natural aging. Following the release of a video showcasing her farm in Australia, she faced a mix of admiration and disparagement regarding her appearance at the age of 68.
In the video that garnered nearly 1 million views, Ward shared insights into her life on the farm she operates with her husband, fellow actor Bryan Brown. While many viewers praised her for embodying “true beauty,” some comments suggested she appeared older than her years.
Ward’s Message of Acceptance
In a follow-up video posted on December 21, 2023, Ward directly addressed the criticisms. She expressed her satisfaction with the aging process, stating, “Do not fear aging. It’s a wonderful period of life in your 60s. I am more fulfilled than ever and I have no regrets, leaving my youth and beauty behind.” Her remarks were aimed at encouraging others to embrace their age rather than resorting to cosmetic procedures.
Ward acknowledged the societal pressures surrounding youth and beauty, saying, “I’m not youthful, but I am a very happy camper. Later years are to be exalted and welcomed.” She emphasized that the later stages of life offer unexpected gifts that become apparent only through experience.
In her video message, she also thanked her supporters for their kind words following the negative comments. “Don’t worry about me,” she reassured her fans. “Let it go,” she added, urging individuals to release their concerns over losing youth.
A Shift in Priorities
The actress revealed that her current lifestyle on a farm does not prioritize her appearance as it once might have. Living in rural Australia, Ward has shifted her focus to managing a beef cattle farm alongside Brown and raising their three adult children: Matilda, Rosie, and Joe.
Ward’s comments resonate in a broader conversation about aging and societal standards of beauty. Her candidness reflects a growing movement in Hollywood that champions natural aging, with other celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis also speaking out against the pressure to maintain a youthful appearance through cosmetic surgery.
Ultimately, Rachel Ward’s message encourages acceptance and self-love at every stage of life, reminding her audience that beauty can take many forms, and fulfillment often lies beyond the superficial.
