Disney has announced a significant partnership with Robert Downey Jr., naming him the official godparent of its upcoming cruise ship, Disney Adventure. This announcement comes just ahead of Downey’s much-anticipated return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the film Avengers: Doomsday. Notably, this role marks a new chapter in Downey’s career, seven years after he was honored as a Disney Legend.

He promised that the Disney Adventure will offer an unparalleled experience, stating it will feature “100 years of classic stories, all in one place, like never before.” He elaborated on the tradition of the godparent role, explaining that they “christen the ship, vowing to bring it a little luck and a lot of love.”

Describing the Disney Adventure as “the biggest ship in Disney’s fleet,” Downey reflected on his reaction when asked to take on the godparent title. He remarked, “It’ll be an honor, a privilege, a blast, a titillating thrill!” After considering the perfect word to convey his excitement, he concluded with “Adventure.”

Key Features of Disney Adventure

The Disney Adventure is set to embark on its maiden voyage from Singapore on March 10, 2026, with bookings now open. This vessel will be the eighth addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet, following the likes of Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy, Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny. As the first and only ship of the Global class, it promises to deliver a unique experience.

Onboard, guests can expect a range of signature Disney entertainment and hospitality options. These include character encounters, Broadway-style shows, themed staterooms, and concierge accommodations. Additionally, there are 20 dining venues featuring world-class international and Asian-inspired cuisines.

The cruise ship will also incorporate several Marvel-themed experiences, including Tony Stark’s Ironcycle Test Run, which is set to be the first roller coaster on a Disney cruise ship and the longest of its kind at sea. Another highlight will be the Avengers Assemble live stage production, staged in the open-air Disney Imagination Garden. This production promises an action-packed battle between superheroes and supervillains, complete with thrilling stunts and impressive special effects.
