Community Mourns the Loss of Kindhearted Wade Gluyas

Wade Alexander Gluyas, a beloved member of his community, passed away on October 20, 2024, following a prolonged battle with kidney and liver failure. Born on August 14, 1958, in Santa Ana, California, Wade was raised by his parents, George and Bette Gluyas, and was known for his generous spirit and kind nature.

A graduate of Rancho Alamitos High School, Wade furthered his education at ITT Technical School and attended various community college classes, driven by his passion for learning. His enthusiasm for knowledge was matched only by his compassion for others. Known for his big-hearted personality, Wade was often described as a “gentle giant” with a contagious smile and a hearty laugh.

Despite his affable demeanor, Wade faced challenges due to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), which sometimes hindered his ability to connect with others. Nevertheless, his commitment to helping those in need remained unwavering. He was particularly devoted to caring for “critters,” “old geezers,” and “the little tikes,” as he affectionately referred to them.

Wade’s family and friends cherished his sense of humor, especially his playful bond with his sister, Becky. The two enjoyed practical jokes, while Wade also shared a love for fishing with his father and sister, Leslie. He often reminisced about adventures with his childhood friend, Chris, and their dreams of exploring far-off places such as Alaska. Although those journeys never materialized, their discussions fueled Wade’s vivid imagination and desire for adventure.

His culinary skills, described humorously by Leslie as those of a “foodie,” often led to unique and unconventional meals, which were typically accompanied by generous helpings of sour cream, hot sauce, and mayonnaise. While some may have had reservations about his creations, family members appreciated his creativity and the joy he found in cooking.

Wade played an essential role in his family, living with his mother and siblings, and assisting them with daily errands, particularly after the passing of his parents in 2005. Following this loss, he moved in with his sister, Beth, and her husband, Gary, in Visalia, California. Despite his struggles with OCD, his family continued to support him, cherishing their time together.

As Wade faced his health challenges, he remained concerned for those around him, showcasing his enduring kindness. He made the decision to donate his organs through the Donor Network, encouraging others to consider organ donation despite any fears. His selflessness is a testament to the character that defined him throughout his life.

Wade Gluyas will be laid to rest alongside his parents and sister in the Murrieta Valley Cemetery in Murrieta, California. A graveside service is scheduled for November 3, 2024, at 13:00. Those who knew him agree that the world feels a little dimmer without Wade, yet his legacy of kindness will continue to shine in the hearts of those he touched.
