Local Sports Enthusiast Robert Briere Passes Away at 67
Robert P. “Bob” Briere, a beloved member of the Lowell community, passed away on February 1, 2026, at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family during his final moments, leaving behind a legacy of love for sports and family.
Born on October 7, 1958, in Lowell, Massachusetts, Bob was the youngest son of the late Henry and Lillian (Boutin) Briere. He was known for his passion for sports, particularly his unwavering support for New England teams. Friends and family often enjoyed Bob’s extensive knowledge of sports, which he shared with enthusiasm.
Before his retirement, Briere worked as a machine operator for Sonoco Products, where he was respected by colleagues for his dedication and work ethic. His interests extended beyond sports; he also collected baseball cards that spanned decades, further highlighting his love for the game.
Family and Community Support
Bob is survived by his sister, Pauline M. Briere; sister-in-law, Karen Briere; niece, Jen Briere, and her spouse, Doug Nolin; as well as two nephews, Jon Briere and his partner, Kellie Roy, and James Briere and his spouse, Jenn Burgess. He also leaves behind several great nephews and a great niece who were very special to him. He was predeceased by his brother, Henry R. Briere.
A wake will be held at the Tyngsborough Funeral Home, located at 4 Cassaway Drive, Tyngsborough, on Monday, February 9, from 16:00 to 19:00. His Funeral Mass is scheduled for Tuesday, February 10, at 10:00 at St. Michael Parish, located at 543 Bridge Street, Lowell. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Chelmsford.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Bob’s memory are encouraged to make a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
