Nationwide Fitness Company Leases Space at San Jose Retail Hub
A nationwide fitness company, Fitness International, has secured a lease for approximately 30,000 square feet at the El Paseo de Saratoga mixed-use neighborhood in San Jose. This move aims to revitalize a location that has historically struggled to retain long-term tenants.
The leased space, located next to the AMC Saratoga 14 movie theater, will house a new Club Studio Fitness gym. Peter Pau, president of Sand Hill Property Co., confirmed the lease as part of ongoing redevelopment efforts at the El Paseo de Saratoga complex. Fitness International also operates the popular LA Fitness and City Sports Club brands.
Revitalization Efforts at El Paseo de Saratoga
The El Paseo de Saratoga shopping center, situated at the intersection of Saratoga Avenue and Lawrence Expressway, is undergoing a comprehensive redevelopment. This initiative includes the addition of residential units and new retail options, such as a Whole Foods Market. According to Pau and public documents, this redevelopment is a strategic effort to enhance the area’s appeal and tenant stability.
The location of the new Club Studio Fitness will occupy the southeast end of the center, an area that has seen multiple tenants over the years, often without lasting success. Previous occupants, including TruFusion and Total Woman Gym and Spa, have closed their doors, as noted on platforms like Google Maps and Yelp.
Pau highlighted the recent progress at the shopping center, stating, “In the past three years, we have brought in 16 new tenants, with another 10 to come soon.” These new tenants are expected to contribute significantly to the mixed-use environment being cultivated at El Paseo de Saratoga.
Future Prospects and Community Impact
The introduction of Club Studio Fitness is anticipated to attract more visitors to the shopping center, potentially boosting foot traffic for existing businesses. The redevelopment project aims not only to fill vacant spaces but also to create a vibrant community hub that meets the needs of local residents.
With the strategic leasing of space to a fitness center and the planned introduction of additional retailers, the El Paseo de Saratoga project represents a significant step towards revitalizing the area. The community can expect more changes in the near future, as the redevelopment continues to take shape and new tenants arrive. This initiative showcases the potential for growth and revitalization in urban retail spaces, particularly in areas with a high demand for diverse services and amenities.
