Community Events in Oakdale, Riverbank, and Escalon This March

Residents of Oakdale, Riverbank, and Escalon can look forward to a variety of community events throughout March, providing opportunities for socialization, cultural engagement, and support. Several local organizations are hosting activities that cater to diverse interests, from musical gatherings to gardening clubs.

Lenten Services and Community Gatherings

During the Lenten season, Saron Lutheran Church in Escalon will hold weekly services that include a meal and worship. These services will take place every Wednesday through March 25, with a free soup supper starting at 18:00 followed by the service at 19:00. The church is located at 1742 North St., Escalon.

The Riverbank-based Golden Agers dance group is encouraging new members to join their weekly sessions every Wednesday from 10:00 to 13:30 at the Riverbank Community Center, located at 3600 Santa Fe St.. The group offers dancing, socializing, and live music for adults aged 55 and older. Membership costs $15, with session fees set at $5 for members and $6 for non-members.

Art and Fundraising Events

On March 7 and March 8, the Valley Art Association, in partnership with the City of Oakdale, will host its 54th Annual Art Show at the Gene Bianchi Community Center. The exhibition is open to the public from 10:00 to 19:00 on Saturday and from 10:00 to 17:00 on Sunday. An awards reception will take place on Sunday at 15:00. Attendees can vote for their favorite piece in the People’s Choice Award, with artworks displayed across various categories including painting, photography, and sculpture.

Also on March 7, a fundraising pasta dinner will be organized by the Escalon United Methodist Church. The event will run from 16:30 to 19:00 at the church located at 2000 Jackson Ave., Escalon. The all-you-can-eat dinner features pasta with a choice of meat sauce or marinara, salad, dinner rolls, and locally baked cookies for $15 for adults and $7 for children aged 5-12, while children under 5 eat for free. Proceeds will benefit the Escalon Ministerial Association.

Musical and Social Activities

For those interested in music, Brennan’s Parlor hosts a monthly Irish music jam, also known as a “Ceilidh,” at the H Bar B Saloon, located at 401 E. F St., Oakdale. This informal gathering takes place on the third Monday of each month from 18:00 to 20:15 and welcomes musicians and listeners alike.

The Oakdale Widowed Persons Group invites individuals from the area to join them for breakfast on the first Saturday of each month at 09:00 and for lunch on the third Tuesday at 13:00. This group provides a supportive environment for those who have lost a spouse. For more information, interested parties can contact Barbara at 209-318-5100.

Additionally, the Escalon Senior Fun Bunch, known as the Senior Steppers, welcomes senior citizens to join their walking group. They meet every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 09:00 at Bob and Dena Lease Park, located at the corner of Justin Drive and Mission Street in Escalon.

Lastly, musicians can join the Jammers, who gather at Medlen’s House of Beef in Oakdale on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month from 15:00 to 18:00. This informal group encourages acoustic musicians to come and play, and the public is invited to listen and participate.

The local TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly) group meets every Monday from 08:30 to 10:00 at 7450 River Road, Suite 4, Oakdale. This support group aims to help individuals achieve their weight loss goals and is open to all.

These events highlight the vibrant community spirit in Oakdale, Riverbank, and Escalon, inviting residents to engage in social, cultural, and charitable activities throughout the month of March.
