Community Mourns the Passing of Lowell W. Smith, 93
Lowell W. Smith, a respected hospital administrator and dedicated community leader, passed away at his home in Novato on January 15, 2025, at the age of 93. His death marks the end of a life enriched by service and connection, leaving behind a legacy of joyful memories for family and friends.
A Life Dedicated to Service
For over 42 years, Smith served in various roles as a hospital administrator, concluding his career at Novato Community Hospital. His commitment to healthcare was matched only by his dedication to community service. Smith was an active member of the Rotary Club, where he fostered connections and contributed to local initiatives.
In 2003, he took on the role of foreman for the Civil Grand Jury, reflecting his deep interest in civic responsibility and community oversight. His influence extended beyond healthcare, as he contributed to several organizations, including the Marin County History Museum and Love is the Answer (LITA). Smith also participated in the Pacheco Valle Fire Wise Committee and served as a docent at The Novato History Museum.
Honoring His Memory
Smith’s family has invited those who wish to honor his memory to make donations to organizations that he cherished. Contributions can be made to the Novato History Museum to support the History of Health Care in Northern Marin or to Novato Community Hospital via their fundraising platform at give.sutterhealth.org, selecting the designation for the NCH Fund.
