Gilbert H. Andrews, an esteemed resident of East Hartford, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at the age of 84. He was the devoted husband of Mary (Gilmister) Andrews, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Born on October 22, 1941, in Hartford, he was the son of the late Willard and Adelaide (McKinney) Andrews.

Gilbert, affectionately known as Gil, spent his formative years in Glastonbury, where he graduated from Glastonbury High School. He enjoyed a fruitful career in industrial manufacturing, demonstrating a strong work ethic that characterized much of his life.

A Lifelong Passion for Sports and Family

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Gil was actively involved in various sports, including softball, horseshoes, golf, and bowling. Remarkably, he continued to bowl regularly until August of the previous year. His passion for sports extended beyond participation, as he was a dedicated supporter of his children and grandson, taking immense pride in their athletic pursuits.

Gil’s love for family was evident in the time he devoted to playing games and assisting with projects, embodying a belief that with effort, anything could be achieved. Known for his determination, generosity, and practical wisdom, he was often heard saying that no piece of scrap wood should ever be thrown away.

His kindness and caring nature endeared him to many, and he will be dearly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his children, Paul Andrews and his wife Jolene of Marlborough, Karolyn Andrews of Manchester, and Bill Andrews of Goshen. Gil also leaves behind two grandchildren, Colin Reilly and Alicia Andrews, as well as siblings and a host of nephews and family members.
