Denise Antunes da Silva Recognized as Fellow by American Ceramic Society
Denise Antunes da Silva, a leading researcher at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been honored as a Fellow of the American Ceramic Society. This prestigious recognition acknowledges her substantial contributions to the fields of ceramics and materials science. The announcement, made during ORNL’s fall meeting in Columbus, Ohio, highlights a career characterized by excellence, influential research, and a dedication to advancing the scientific and engineering community.
At ORNL, specifically within the Building Technologies Research and Integration Center, Antunes da Silva focuses on enhancing the efficiency and longevity of innovative building materials. Her research explores cement-based materials, alternative binders, and natural components such as fibers and earth. According to ORNL, her work not only contributes to academic knowledge but also strengthens U.S. competitiveness by promoting the development of cost-effective building materials sourced domestically.
Before joining ORNL in 2021, Antunes da Silva accumulated 15 years of experience in research and development within the U.S. industry. Her professional mission has centered on improving the performance and efficiency of cement-based materials through the use of chemical admixtures. In addition to her research, she served as a civil engineering professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina in Brazil, further enriching her expertise and impact in the field.
