The first component is a cut-to-size ember-proof carbon filter. This spongy polymer mesh, infused with fire retardant and coated with activated carbon, can be easily sized with scissors to fit behind vents. Allen emphasizes the unique design of this filter, stating, “This has simply never existed as an option before.” The material resembles lava rock but is adaptable enough to fit multiple vent types, offering protection against both embers and smoke from nearby wildfires.

Next, the kit includes a heat-resistant, ember-proof tape meant for sealing gaps around doors, windows, and eaves. This tape features a temporary clean-peel adhesive that adheres firmly during high temperatures yet can be removed without damaging surfaces. Allen notes, “The tape is made of fiberglass and brings professional-grade ember gap sealing to homeowners.”

The final component is a twice-over fire prevention spray that attaches directly to a standard garden hose. This spray mixes a concentrated formula with water, allowing homeowners to quickly coat their properties, fences, and outdoor vegetation without specialized equipment. The phosphate-based spray is safe for humans, animals, and plants, and it aids in regrowth after fires. All three items are available through major retailers, including Lowe’s. The ember-proof filters retail for approximately $40 each, while the sealing tape is priced at $30 for a 35-foot (11 m) roll. The twice-over fire prevention spray costs just under $150 per bottle, sufficient to cover about 400 square feet (37.2 sq m).

With a five-year shelf life for the spray and a ten-year life for the tape, homeowners can store these products until a fire weather warning is issued.
