New Destiny Dog Rescue Marks 10 Years of Transforming Lives
New Destiny Dog Rescue (NDDR) is celebrating a significant milestone—ten years of dedicated service to the community and countless dogs in need. On March 14, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., NDDR will host a celebratory event at its new Upscale Yard Sale location at 912 North Main Street, Bedford County. This gathering aims to both commemorate the rescue’s achievements and raise awareness about the importance of animal rescue.
The event will feature various food trucks, including Justa Smokin and Sir Pizza, alongside activities designed to engage the public. A highlight of the day is the “Clues for Canines Sticker Race,” an interactive activity aimed at educating participants about animal rescue while having fun. Volunteers from NDDR emphasize that while the number of dogs saved is remarkable, the focus remains on the lives transformed through care and adoption.
Participants can purchase tickets for $10 per person via Venmo or cash. The race allows individuals to compete solo or in teams of up to six, with children aged seven and under participating for free. Tickets are limited to 108, with designated time slots starting at 10:30 a.m. and concluding at 1:00 p.m. Each contestant will check in, tour the rescue facilities, and then embark on a quest to solve clues related to local businesses, earning stickers along the way.
Local businesses, such as New Covenant Christian Book Store and Liberty Tax, will participate by hosting “deputy dogs” who will verify answers to the clues. Notably, the ultimate winner will not be determined by who returns first but by the time taken to complete the race.
NDDR has expressed deep gratitude to the community for its support over the past decade. Volunteers, fosters, and donors have all played a crucial role in the rescue’s mission. As the event approaches, NDDR encourages everyone to engage with their local animal rescue efforts.
A personal story from Teresa Smith exemplifies the impact of NDDR’s work. Smith fostered a dog named “Little Girl,” who had been rescued from a hoarding situation in Shelbyville. She described the transformation of the dog, who arrived frail and in poor condition. Smith recalls, “The picture of when we got her, and the day she left, is just remarkable.”
Through care and rehabilitation, “Little Girl” flourished under Smith’s supervision. “Her little body had to detox all the ‘junk’ that was in her,” Smith noted, highlighting the long-term effects of neglect on animals. After her recovery, Smith was able to find a loving home for Little Girl, where she continues to thrive.
As NDDR celebrates its ten-year anniversary, the organization remains committed to its mission of rescuing and rehabilitating dogs, and educating the public about responsible pet ownership.
