San Marin’s Daniel Rolovich Named Player of the Year in Redwood Empire

In a notable achievement for high school athletics, Daniel Rolovich, quarterback for San Marin High School, has been awarded the prestigious title of Player of the Year by the Marin Independent Journal, coinciding with his selection as the Adobe Player of the Year in the Redwood Empire Conference. This recognition marks the first time a Marin player has received the league’s top honor since the conference’s recent restructuring.

Rolovich’s performance during the 2025 season was exceptional, leading the Mustangs to an impressive record of 8-3 and their second consecutive appearance in the North Coast Section Open/Division I playoffs. He showcased his dual-threat capability by completing 65% of his passes for 1,930 yards and 18 touchdowns, while also rushing for 731 yards and adding 10 touchdowns on the ground. His standout moments included scoring a total of 10 touchdowns in consecutive games against Casa Grande and Ukiah, leading to victories of 45-3 and 42-14, respectively.

All-League Selections Reveal Diverse Talent

In addition to Rolovich’s accolades, several players from the Marin area received honors in various categories. Linebacker Daniel Gilmore from San Marin was named Co-Defensive Player of the Year, sharing the title with Kordell Strane of Cardinal Newman. The Mustangs also saw key contributions from defenders Ryan Houlahan and Luke Saysette, who earned first-team status.

Other notable performances came from Marin Catholic, which finished second in the Adobe League and secured a 5th seed in the Open/D-I playoffs. Co-captains Jarred Geissberger and Vince Tarantino made significant impacts, with Geissberger earning first-team recognition at running back and Tarantino being named Lineman of the Year. Geissberger’s memorable plays included a game-winning two-point conversion against Windsor, contributing to a dramatic 28-27 win.

Redwood High’s Dylan McGrath was another standout, earning first-team honors as both a receiver and cornerback, showcasing his versatility on the field. His team finished strong, with a solid defense that complemented a growing offensive unit.

Emerging Stars and Competitive Playoffs

The competition in the Redwood Empire Conference this season has been fierce, with various players demonstrating exceptional skill across the board. Lachlan Royston of San Rafael was named Offensive Player of the Year, throwing for 2,802 yards and 36 touchdowns. His contributions were pivotal in leading San Rafael to a second-place finish in the league.

Novato’s Gio Castaing also had a remarkable season, contributing both offensively and defensively. He finished with 904 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, while also making an impact as a linebacker.
