In-N-Out Bans Number 67 from Ordering System Amid Viral Trend
The popular fast food chain In-N-Out has officially removed the number 67 from its ordering system due to a viral trend that has captured the attention of young customers. This decision comes as reports confirm that children have been enthusiastically shouting “six-seven” and mimicking hand gestures when the number is called. According to People magazine, In-N-Out has taken this step to curb the disruptive behavior associated with the trend.
The extent of this ban remains uncertain, as Parade notes it is unclear whether all In-N-Out locations will implement the change. Previously, the number 69 had already been removed from the ticketing system for similar reasons. Observers of elementary and middle school children will be familiar with the trend, which involves the phrase “6-7” followed by a playful hand motion that suggests a choice between two options.
The origins of this trend are somewhat nebulous. Some speculate it may stem from an unreleased song titled “Doot Doot (6 7)” by rapper Skrilla. This phrase gained further recognition when it was named Word of the Year by dictionary.com. Interestingly, some businesses have embraced the momentum of this trend. For example, Wendy’s recently introduced a 67-cent Frosty to its menu, and Pizza Hut has offered 67-cent wings, capitalizing on the viral nature of the number.
The decision by In-N-Out reflects a broader trend among fast food chains to adapt their offerings and operations in response to popular culture and social media phenomena. While the removal of the number 67 may seem minor, it highlights how businesses are increasingly attuned to the behaviors and preferences of their younger clientele. As social media trends continue to evolve, it is likely that we will see more adjustments from brands seeking to maintain a positive dining experience.
As the fast food industry navigates these cultural shifts, it remains to be seen how consumers will react to In-N-Out’s latest move. The chain’s ability to balance tradition with contemporary trends will be key to its ongoing popularity in a competitive market.
