Justice Annette Ziegler Announces She Will Not Seek Reelection

Justice Annette Ziegler of the Wisconsin Supreme Court confirmed on March 11, 2024, that she will not pursue reelection in 2027. Having served on the court since her initial election in 2007 and reelection in 2017, Ziegler expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve the state judicial system for over three decades.

In her statement, Ziegler emphasized the honor of her role, stating, “It has been the honor of my lifetime to serve as judge and justice for the past 30 years.” She reflected on her commitment to the people of Wisconsin and the judiciary, adding that her appreciation for the system remains strong. Ziegler intends to complete her current term and will transition her responsibilities to a new justice in 2027.

Ziegler’s background is marked by extensive judicial experience. Before her tenure on the Supreme Court, she served as a senior judge in Washington County and held the position of District III deputy chief judge. Her legal career also includes roles as an assistant U.S. states attorney, a special assistant district attorney, and a practicing attorney in private law.

Graduating from Marquette University Law School, Ziegler has built a reputation for her dedication to justice and public service. As she prepares to leave the court, her focus will shift towards spending more time with her family, marking a significant transition in her career.
