Beloved Community Leader Dan Ericson Passes Away at 77

Dan Ericson, a cherished figure in the South Bay community, passed away peacefully at his home in Hermosa Beach on December 12, 2025, at the age of 77. Surrounded by family and friends, he left behind a legacy of love and mentorship that will be deeply missed.

Born on October 26, 1948, Ericson grew up in the coastal towns of Redondo Beach and Hermosa Beach. Raised by his mother, Virginia Ericson, he was known for his athletic prowess during his time at Aviation High School, where he excelled in baseball and basketball and was honored as Homecoming King. His passion for sports continued at San Diego State University, where he was recruited to play volleyball.

After proudly serving as a Gunnery Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, Ericson transitioned to a brief career in the aerospace industry. However, he found his true passion in real estate, establishing a successful business that spanned decades. His reputation was built not only on his expertise but also on his integrity, generosity, and commitment to guiding young realtors in the industry.

In 1980, Ericson married Cetha Walkington at Neighborhood Church, marking the beginning of a loving partnership rooted in family and community values. Together, they raised two children, Sten and Kirstin, and welcomed four grandchildren: Jan, Sebastian, Andersson, and Anaise. Known for his kindness and playful sense of humor, Ericson was a man who could brighten anyone’s day with a clever joke or quick wit.

His love for the ocean was evident in his hobbies, which included surfing, fishing, and sailing. This easygoing spirit permeated his life and interactions with others. Ericson was a long-time parishioner of American Martyrs Church, where he remained actively involved for over 40 years, further solidifying his connection to the community he cherished.

Ericson is now reunited with his beloved wife, Cetha. He is survived by his children and grandchildren, who carry forward his legacy of love and mentorship.

Memorial Services and Community Tributes

A funeral Mass and celebration of Ericson’s life will take place at American Martyrs Church in Manhattan Beach on January 26, 2026, at 10:30 AM. Prior to the Mass, the family has organized a paddle out at 10:00 AM on January 25, 2026, at 25th Street in Hermosa Beach. All are welcome to attend this tribute to a man who touched so many lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Jimmy Miller Foundation, an organization committed to enhancing the lives of those in need, reflecting Ericson’s lifelong dedication to helping others.

Dan Ericson’s impact on his community will be remembered through the countless lives he influenced and the love he shared with family and friends. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
