He suggested that Optimus could serve as a foundational technology for building civilizations on other planets. Musk replied affirmatively, stating, “Optimus will be the first von Neumann machine, capable of building civilization by itself on any viable planet.”

The term “von Neumann machine” references a theoretical concept proposed by Hungarian-American mathematician and physicist John von Neumann. Such machines are envisioned as spacecraft that can replicate themselves using raw materials found in different planetary systems.
