Berks County 4-H Dairy Team Shines at National Contest
The Berks County 4-H Dairy Judging Team recently showcased their skills at the prestigious North American International Livestock Expo 4-H Dairy Judging Contest held in Louisville, Kentucky. Their participation in this national event followed a commendable performance at the Pennsylvania 4-H Dairy Judging Contest in June 2025, where they secured 2nd place among state competitors.
Comprising team members Connor and Alexis Servin from Bernville, Wyatt Lehner from Mohrsville, and Addison Nolan from Lebanon, the team was guided by dedicated 4-H volunteers Raechel Sattazahn and Brandon Grumbine. As part of their preparation, the team engaged in rigorous practice sessions, studying various aspects of dairy conformation to enhance their judging skills.
At the contest in November, the Berks County team placed 7th out of 20 competing teams, a testament to their hard work and dedication. Their performance included notable rankings in specific classes: they achieved 2nd place in the Ayrshire class, 3rd place in the Guernsey class, and 4th place in the Jersey class. Additionally, the team earned 9th place for their oral reasoning, an essential component of the competition that assesses their ability to articulate their judging decisions.
Individually, team members also excelled. Wyatt Lehner distinguished himself by placing 2nd in the Guernsey class, 8th in the Ayrshire class, and 13th in oral reasons. Connor Servin secured 2nd place in the Jersey class and achieved an impressive 11th place overall.
The 4-H program, administered in Pennsylvania by Penn State Extension, is part of a nationwide initiative that engages over six million young people. Through hands-on learning experiences, participants develop critical leadership, citizenship, and life skills. Local 4-H programs are available in all 67 counties across the Commonwealth, providing valuable opportunities for youth to learn and grow.
For those interested in exploring local 4-H programs, further information can be found on the Penn State Extension website at extension.psu.edu/4-H. The achievements of the Berks County 4-H Dairy Judging Team reflect not only their individual talents but also the strength of community support in fostering the next generation of agricultural leaders.
