KISSIMMEE — Caitlin Bohrer of Fort Pierce Central secured the runner-up position in the 120-pound weight class at the Class 1A girls state championships held on March 7, 2024, at the Silver Spurs Arena. Following a challenging tournament, Bohrer’s perseverance and skill were evident as she faced numerous region champions while nursing a knee injury.

In the finals, Bohrer competed against Kendal Haynie from Wakulla, ultimately losing via pinfall early in the second period. Despite the disappointment of falling just short of a state title, Bohrer expressed satisfaction with her journey. “Honestly, I’m not even mad because I didn’t think I’d make it this far,” she reflected. “I’m pretty proud of myself and I’m happy.”

Fort Pierce Central has a strong wrestling program, boasting a tradition of success with multiple top finishers over the past few years. Bohrer joins the ranks of state champion Gaby Perez (2023) and two-time runner-up Kha’Lyah Delva (2024-25).

The match against Haynie showcased Bohrer’s determination, as she scored two reversals in the first periods. However, Haynie’s strength proved decisive, and the match concluded 35 seconds into the second period. Bohrer’s assistant coach, Sean Harris, noted, “The match itself was very even. They both scored on each other, but sometimes it comes down to a 50/50 and we were just on the wrong end of that.”

Bohrer’s road to the finals included an impressive performance that began with a first-period pin of Region 2 champion Michelle Amyot from Viera, followed by another pin against Vanessa Whitelock from Admiral Farragut Academy in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, she edged out Region 4 champion Kailea Villavicencio with a close 5-4 decision.

This season marked a significant turnaround for Bohrer, who had not qualified for the state tournament the previous year. Her technical improvements included better positioning and enhanced shot setups, all of which contributed to her success. “I’m so immensely proud of Caitlin and her progress this season,” Harris remarked. “Her technique was the priority this year, and she executed perfectly throughout the state tournament.”

Bohrer’s achievements were also supported by her senior teammate, Mackenzie Allcroft. “She was just by my side the whole time and she really helped me immensely,” Bohrer said, acknowledging Allcroft’s role in her preparation and confidence leading into matches.

Allcroft also competed at the championships in the 115-pound weight class, overcoming an initial defeat to win four consecutive matches. Her quest for a podium finish ended in the third-place match against Middleburg’s Fallon Dames, who secured victory via pinfall in the second round.

The combined efforts of Bohrer and Allcroft contributed to Fort Pierce Central’s overall performance, allowing the team to finish 12th with 38 points. Harris emphasized the commitment of the girls’ team, noting, “They are showing up to practice every day ready to work. And it’s just a testament to their character.”

In addition to the success of the Fort Pierce Central wrestlers, Lincoln Park Academy’s Makayla Brianvil earned a fourth-place finish in the 235-pound category, helping the Greyhounds achieve a total of 19 points and tie for 37th overall.

As the season concludes, both Bohrer and Allcroft look forward to building on their experiences and striving for further achievements in the future.
