The Hazleton Area Cougars secured a commanding victory over the Wyoming Valley West Spartans with a score of **72-44** on March 12, 2024. This triumph marks a significant turnaround for the Cougars, who now hold sole possession of second place in the Wyoming Valley Conference (WVC) Division 1 boys’ basketball standings. The Cougars improved their record to **8-9 overall** and **5-2 in WVC play**.

The Spartans, struggling with only one win this season, fought valiantly in the first half, remaining competitive. However, the Cougars unleashed a dominant performance after halftime, outscoring Wyoming Valley West **41-17**. Leading the charge for Hazleton Area was **Dylan Stish**, who scored **18 points**, while teammates **Oscaudy Vasquez** and **Eddie Macko** contributed **15** and **14 points**, respectively. Both **Kendrick Ortiz** and **Kevin Lucas** added eight points to the tally.

In a separate matchup, Holy Redeemer defeated MMI Prep **56-27** in a WVC Division II game held in Freeland. **Charlie Schaffer** led the Royals with **11 points**, supported by **Cody Quaglia** with **nine** and **Quron Drayton** and **Kaden Sepkoski** each contributing **eight**.
