Maye Leads Patriots to Playoff Victory Over Ravens, 28-24

BALTIMORE — New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye delivered a standout performance in a crucial game against the Baltimore Ravens, leading his team to a 28-24 victory that secured a playoff spot. After experiencing a disappointing loss to the Buffalo Bills the previous week, Maye’s resilience shone through as he orchestrated a nine-play, 89-yard touchdown drive in the game’s final moments.

Maye acknowledged the significance of the previous week’s loss, which he referred to as the “elephant in the room.” He expressed a strong desire to avoid a repeat of that feeling. “It was kind of a wake-up call last week,” Maye said. “This week, it was like, ‘man, let’s not have that feeling two weeks in a row.’

Historic Performance Under Pressure

In this game, Maye completed 31 of 44 passes for a total of 380 yards, marking the first 300-yard passing game of his NFL career. He threw two touchdowns and had one interception. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel praised Maye’s grit, noting, “He got hit. They pressured. He just kept getting up and battling. He didn’t flinch. With just over five minutes remaining in the game and the Patriots trailing 24-21, Maye took the field at the New England 11-yard line.

He quickly got things moving, connecting with receiver Mack Hollins for a 20-yard gain. Short passes to running back Rhamondre Stevenson and receiver Stefon Diggs followed, but a long incomplete pass to receiver Kayshon Boutte raised eyebrows among players and coaches, who felt there should have been a defensive pass interference call against Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey.

On a critical fourth-and-2 play, Maye found Diggs for a 21-yard catch-and-run. Diggs, who led the team with nine receptions for 138 yards, praised Maye’s accuracy: “That was a great ball. I ran a route, tried to put speed on him, and Drake put it where only I could get it.”

Sealing the Victory

After a six-yard connection to Hollins, Stevenson rushed 21 yards for the game-winning touchdown just before the two-minute warning. The Ravens had a chance to respond, but Patriots defensive end/outside linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson forced a fumble on receiver Zay Flowers, which was recovered by cornerback Marcus Jones.
