Methacton Dominates Pope John Paul II in Swimming and Basketball Matches

On January 9, 2026, Methacton High School showcased its prowess in both swimming and basketball, securing decisive victories over Pope John Paul II (PJP) and other rivals in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC).

Swimming Success for Methacton

In the girls’ swimming competition, Methacton triumphed with a score of 107-60 against PJP. Notable performances included Avery Gulotta, who won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:08.46, and Cadie Kallal, who claimed victory in the 200 individual medley at 2:31.33. The team also excelled in the relays, with the 200 medley relay team of Chloe Fennimore, Annette Testa, Caitlyn Kenning, and Sofia Munley finishing at 2:09.55.

PJP’s Caitlyn Kenning managed to secure a win in the 100 freestyle, clocking in at 1:01.06, while also contributing to the 200 medley relay. The overall season records now stand at 4-2 for Methacton (4-0 in PAC) and 1-3 for PJP (1-3 in PAC).

In the boys’ competition, Methacton also emerged victorious, defeating PJP 104-61. Junior Jake Roberts shone brightly, winning both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke events, while contributing to the winning 200 freestyle relay. Basketball Highlights from Methacton and Beyond

In girls’ basketball, Spring-Ford achieved a commanding victory over Norristown with a score of 58-12. Freshman Teagan Finney led the Rams with 12 points, supported by Miley Maloney and Brynn Stiles, who both contributed 11 points. Spring-Ford’s defense was particularly potent, shutting out Norristown in both the first and third quarters. The Rams improved their overall record to 9-2 and will face Pottsgrove next.

Norristown struggled to find its footing, with Alana Colson and Lex Hernandez each scoring 6 points. Their record now stands at 1-12.

In another thrilling matchup, Upper Moreland edged out Pottsgrove with a score of 56-50. Layla Jelbaoui led her team with 18 points, including a strong second-half performance. The Falcons now hold a record of 5-9.

Renaissance Academy faced Upper Merion and secured a 48-38 victory. Levayda Fuqua led her team with 12 points. Upper Merion will look to regroup as they prepare for their next game against Phoenixville.

In boys’ basketball, Upper Merion defeated Renaissance Academy 44-34, with Isaiah Robinson scoring 22 points, including a strong fourth-quarter performance that saw the Vikings outscore their opponents by 12 points. Upper Merion improved to a season record of 3-10.
