The highly anticipated NJPW Young Lion Cup is making its comeback after a hiatus since 2019, featuring six emerging talents vying for the title of top Young Lion in New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). The tournament is set to take place during the upcoming Road to The New Beginning tour, with matches scheduled across three events in Tokyo.

The Young Lion Cup is a single-elimination tournament that showcases the best of NJPW’s rising stars. Katsuya Murashima, Shoma Kato, Daiki Nagai, Zane Jay, Masatora Yasuda, and Tatsuya Matsumoto will compete for the prestigious title. Murashima and Kato, being the most senior competitors, have earned first-round byes, allowing them to advance directly to the semifinals.

The tournament will unfold as follows:

January 19, 2026
– First-round match: Daiki Nagai vs. Zane Jay
– First-round match: Masatora Yasuda vs. Tatsuya Matsumoto

January 20, 2026
– Semifinals: Katsuya Murashima vs. either Daiki Nagai or Zane Jay
– Semifinals: Shoma Kato vs. either Masatora Yasuda or Tatsuya Matsumoto

February 1, 2026
– Finals: TBD vs. TBD

All matches are set to take place at Korakuen Hall, a venue renowned for hosting significant wrestling events in Tokyo.

The previous edition of the Young Lion Cup in 2019 was won by Karl Fredericks, who later transitioned to compete in WWE NXT under the name Eddy Thorpe. That tournament featured notable participants such as Yota Tsuji, Shota Umino, and Ren Narita, highlighting the competitive nature and talent pool within NJPW’s Young Lions.
