Oklahoma Pitcher Sophia Bordi Enters Transfer Portal Ahead of New Season

Oklahoma pitcher Sophia Bordi announced her decision to enter the transfer portal on Friday, marking a significant shift in her collegiate career. Bordi, who joined the Oklahoma program prior to the 2025 season, made her intentions known via a post on X (formerly Twitter), where she expressed the personal nature of her decision.

“This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but sometimes things have to change in order to try and find that little kid in yourself who’s yearned for as long as you can remember to be living in the blessings that you’re currently in, to find that spark again,” Bordi wrote. She added that she is eager to explore new challenges and opportunities in her journey ahead.

Bordi’s time at Oklahoma was marked by significant potential. A standout in high school, she was recognized as the top-rated pitcher in the 2025 recruiting class and was a two-time recipient of the New Jersey Gatorade Player of the Year award. She led her high school team to two state championships and reclassified to enroll at Oklahoma a year early. Although she initially planned to redshirt during her first year, she stepped away from the program in May 2025 to focus on her personal and mental health, returning to her hometown of Merchantville, NJ.

Throughout her time in Norman, Bordi did not participate in any official games, including the Sooners’ fall exhibition matches or intrasquad Battle Series scrimmages. Despite this, she expressed gratitude for her experiences at Oklahoma. “I want to say thank you to the people close to me in Oklahoma and the Sooner fans who have continued to support me and show me love throughout my journey thus far,” she stated.

Following Bordi’s announcement, the Oklahoma pitching staff will now consist of Kierston Deal, Audrey Lowry, Berkley Zache, Sydney Berzon, Miali Guachino, and Allyssa Parker. The Sooners, who previously enjoyed a four-year national championship streak, faced a setback in 2025 when they were eliminated by Texas Tech in the semifinals of the Women’s College World Series. Texas subsequently claimed the national title by defeating Texas Tech.

As Bordi embarks on a new chapter, her future within collegiate athletics remains to be seen. Her decision reflects a growing trend among student-athletes seeking environments that better align with their personal and professional aspirations.
