Robert E. “Bob” Gordon passed away unexpectedly on January 7, 2025, at the age of 71 while surfing at Bolsa Chica State Beach in California. Born in 1954 in Alhambra, California, he was the son of Kenneth and Jo Ann Gordon, who raised their family in the San Gabriel Valley. Bob’s legacy extends beyond his family to the pest control industry, where he was a respected leader and advocate for safety and regulation.

Bob Gordon graduated from the University of Arizona in 1977, earning a full scholarship in gymnastics. He completed his degree in business administration and soon after joined his father in the family business, Gordon Termite & Pest Control, which was founded by his grandfather Tony Gordon in 1942. Under Bob’s leadership, the company thrived, and he became an influential figure in the industry, particularly within the San Gabriel Valley District of the Pest Control Operators of California (PCOC).

Throughout his career, Bob garnered respect and recognition for his expertise. His involvement with the PCOC led to various state-level positions, culminating in his presidency in 1988. Bob was instrumental in several initiatives focused on improving safety and compliance within the pest control sector. Most recently, he chaired a committee responsible for reviewing and rewriting the Structural Pest Control Act and accompanying regulations.

Family and Personal Life

Bob is survived by his wife, Cary Gordon; his sister, Jodie Jenkins; brother-in-law, Bob Jenkins; son, Bryan Gordon; daughter-in-law, Tiffany Gordon; and grandchildren, Ryder, Rexx, and Rio Gordon. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Jason Watson and Christina Jackson, along with granddaughter Nora Jackson. Bob’s family was central to his life, and he cherished family gatherings, often attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Outside of work, Bob led an active lifestyle. He enjoyed biking, fishing, golfing, and, of course, surfing. His passion for travel allowed him to explore new places, but he always prioritized time with family. Friends and family will remember Bob for his warmth, encouragement, and the hugs he freely gave, which will be deeply missed.

Celebration of Life

A celebration of Bob Gordon’s life is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on January 12, 2026, at Cornerstone Church, located at 1000 N. Studebaker Road, Long Beach, CA 90815. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations in Bob’s memory, which can be directed towards planting a living memorial.

Bob’s unexpected passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew him, both personally and professionally. His contributions to the pest control industry and his loving nature will continue to resonate within the community he served so diligently.
