Team USA’s ice dancers made a strong statement during the rhythm dance competition at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics on February 5, 2024. Emilea Zingas and Vadym Kolesnik delivered an impressive performance, securing a personal best score of 83.53. This achievement placed them sixth in the qualifying round, keeping their hopes alive for a medal in the upcoming finals.

The competition showcased the talent of the American duo, who have been preparing diligently for this moment. Their score not only reflects their hard work but also positions Team USA favorably as they advance to the finals, scheduled for February 7, 2024.

In a thrilling conclusion to Monday’s competition, Madison Chock and Evan Bates also elevated Team USA’s standing. They finished with a score of 89.27, earning second place. The couple, who married in 2024 after a remarkable 15-year partnership, have previously claimed three World Championship titles. Their sights are now set on securing an Olympic medal, a long-awaited goal.

Earlier in the day, teammates Christina Carreira and Anthony Ponomarenko faced a challenging outing, finishing in 11th place with a score of 78.15. The rhythm dance competition serves as a qualifier for the finals, allowing the top 20 pairs to compete for medals.

The American ice dancers’ performance comes on the heels of a historic sweep at the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships held in Beijing less than a month before the Olympics. At that event, Zingas and Kolesnik led the team with a score of 79.97, marking the first U.S. ice dance sweep since 2005.

Typically, few skaters participate in the Four Continents in an Olympic year, but Zingas and Kolesnik seized the opportunity to refine their routines on an international stage. Their experience and readiness highlight Team USA’s commitment to excellence as they approach the finals.

With the rhythm dance competition behind them, the attention now turns to the finals. Team USA’s ice dancers are poised to continue their strong performances and aim for Olympic glory in Milan.
