Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton has ignited considerable debate following his comments regarding women’s worth in relation to motherhood. During an episode of the podcast “It’s Giving” on February 18, 2024, hosted by Sarah Fontenot, Newton stated that a woman’s value diminishes as she has more children. This assertion has drawn criticism and sparked discussions about gender perceptions and societal values.

Newton, who is a father of nine, including seven biological children and two stepchildren, expressed his views candidly. He remarked, “I just think that the reality of that answer is that women’s value gets lowered the more children that they have.” His comments were framed within a broader discussion about relationships and expectations, particularly regarding the mothers of his children.

In the podcast, Newton elaborated on his perspective by recounting a conversation with one of the mothers of his children. He emphasized the importance of accepting partners with children, stating, “If he ain’t willing to love on these five children that you have, he ain’t the guy for you.” This highlights his belief in the necessity for partners to embrace the entirety of a person’s life, including their parental responsibilities.

While acknowledging the challenges of co-parenting, Newton praised the mothers of his children—Kia Proctor, LaReina Shaw, and Jasmine Brown—indicating a sense of gratitude and obligation towards them. “I owe a service to them… that’s still the mother of my children,” he said, pointing to the complex dynamics that can exist in blended families.

This is not the first instance in which Newton’s comments on women have stirred controversy. Just days before this podcast episode, during a different podcast called “Funky Friday,” he stated that he cannot maintain platonic relationships with women, explaining, “If she fine, I’m not about to have her around playing that I don’t think that she’s attractive.” These remarks reflect a pattern in Newton’s public persona, where he often shares strong opinions on gender roles and relationships.

In a previous appearance on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast, he suggested that women should “cook” and “be quiet,” a statement that he later attempted to clarify. He noted that he did not mean to imply that women should not express themselves but rather highlighted a need for balance in relationships.

Newton’s recent statements have reignited discussions about societal expectations of women, particularly regarding motherhood and their perceived value in relationships. Critics argue that such views reinforce outdated stereotypes and can contribute to the stigmatization of single mothers and women with children.

As public figures like Newton continue to share their perspectives, the reactions to these comments underscore the ongoing dialogue about gender equality, societal norms, and the complexities of modern relationships. Public response to Newton’s remarks is likely to evolve as discussions about these important issues continue.
